HELP WANTED

Advice about how to manage staff as there was continued disputes between staff members. The business owner was at their wits end as to how to deal with the issues. 

HELP RECEIVED

Worked to understand what the root cause of the staff discontentment which has been ongoing for years. Identified that staff have different employment contracts with different clauses. Each member of staff had a different contract depending upon when they began their employment. Staff felt disgruntled as some people had more favourable contracts than others but were expected to do the same role. In order to stop staff disputes and managers dealing with situation after situation, all staff were put on the same contracts so there was consistency.                                                                                

 

 

RESULTS

An employment contract was written that was detailed and clear to understand. Staff knew exactly where they stood. Managers were clear about how to answer questions. Each member of staff had the new contract explained in detail before they signed the new contract. A couple of staff were hesitant to sign until they were shown how the new contract gave them better conditions than the previous contract. 

OUTCOME

Staff became satisfied that everybody was treated fairly. The arguments, refusal to cover certain shifts and disputes with managers and the business owner all stopped. Night shifts became easier to cover. Staff checked their contracts to find out their rights on maternity / paternity leave, holiday, overtime etc. Managers were not repeatedly asked the same questions and the business owner felt great relief as they never had to cover night shifts again
